POWERSTEP annual meeting and Summer School
A 2nd year progress meeting with all POWERSTEP partners took place in Vienna, Austria, 5-6 July. The meeting, hosted by the project partner TU Wien (Technical University of Vienna), was organised in connection with the 2-day POWERSTEP Summer School held on 6-7 July.
The annual meeting allowed the partners of the six POWERSTEP case studies as well as the leaders of the cross-cutting activities (full plant concept integration, communication and project management) to present the progress and results achieved during the past year of the project.
On the second day, time was reserved for more in-depth discussions and for planning the future activities for the final year of POWERSTEP. Technical meetings as well as small group discussions to review policy and communication actions were held.
Around 35 representatives from the 15 partner organisations of the consortium as well as three Advisory Board members attended this year’s General Assembly.
In parallel to the project’s annual meeting, a POWERSTEP Summer School on energy-positive wastewater treatment was organised on 6-7 July.
The school attracted over 70 students from around Europe to follow lectures and to learn about cutting-edge research from leading experts coming from both research institutions and industry. The four interconnected strategies investigated in POWERSTEP to turn wastewater treatment plants into net energy producers were at the core of the programme.
As part of the summer school, the students also enjoyed a guided city tour in Vienna as well as a third man tour into the Viennese sewer system.
