15th European Conference on Thermoelectrics (ECT2017)
The ECT 2017 conference will offer an international forum for scientific exchange on thermoelectricity. The sessions will cover all aspects from materials design, synthesis and characterization to application issues and modules. Oral presentations include comprehensive contributions by invited speakers. In addition, poster sessions will give the opportunity for informal discussions on specific issues. An exhibition of relevant equipment will be offered.
The POWERSTEP project partners will present the Braunschweig Case Study results with a poster titled "Application of Thermoelectrics in Waste Water Treatment Plants":

The implementation of safe and efficient wastewater treatment systems is essential to satisfy global water demand, safeguard the environment, protect public health and meet sustainability goals. Energy-positive wastewater treatment plants (WWTPs) create an enabling environment for greener, smarter and more circular cities.
The EU-funded project “POWERSTEP”  aims on a full scale demonstration of energy positive sewage treatment plant concepts towards market penetration. In different case studies, innovative technologies for WWTP are developed, deployed and assessed.
In the domain of heat-to-power technologies, the heat and power cogeneration plant (CHP) of a WWTP in Braunschweig, Germany is equipped with a thermoelectric generator (TEG) in order to boost the electrical efficiency of the CHP at large scale.
The poster informs about the general concept of energy-positive WWTP and the optimization of CHP using a TEG. A scalable TEG, critical design aspects and first measurement results are presented.
